Dear Mary Jane,

I like dogs and cats, so I enjoy reading about the two main characters in your book. Why did you decide to name them Boomer and Halley?

Your Friend,
Truman

That’s a great question, Truman!

Boomer is short for Boomerang. He is an Australian Shepherd dog named for the half-moon-shaped toy popular in Australia that comes back when you throw it – a boomerang.

Halley’s full name is Halley’s Comet. Like the shooting comet in the night sky, she is a silver streak of a cat. Boomer and Halley often get into mischief, but, like thri names, they fly back around and return to good behavior.

Throughout each story, Boomer and Halley learn valuable life lessons from their adoptive parents, Harold and Edna Sanders, in the small Southern town of Shady Pines.

Your Friend,
Mary Jane McKittrick
